The Fred W. Beazley River Academy project expanded and revitalized a vital educational resource within the Elizabeth River Project’s ecosystem. The goal was to create an engaging space where visitors could connect with nature and learn about the river’s restoration efforts while supporting educational programs like the Youth Conservation Internship.
An additional 2,200 SF was added to the existing 1,400 SF facility, incorporating a 50-seat lecture hall, outdoor classroom, and covered pavilion, all designed to blend with the existing systems and landscape. A critical focus was placed on maintaining the site’s integrity while offering ADA-accessible features, creating a more inclusive learning environment. River-friendly parking and landscaping further underscore the project’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
